Jowar Poori / Jolada Vadi

Jowar poori is a typical North Karnataka recipe. It is a very healthy, nutritious and delicious recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Jowar flour
  • ¼ cup wheat flour
  • ¼ cup urad flour
  • 3 tbsp chickpeas flour
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • salt as per taste
  • 1.5 tsp chilli powder
  • water to knead the dough
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, add in jowar flour, wheat flour,urad flour and besan/chickpeas flour and mix.
  • Prepare a masala paste by adding curry leaves, coriander leaves, green chillies and a tablespoon of water in a blender.
  • Add the masala paste, salt as per taste and chilli powder to the flour mix and mix everything together.
  • Prepare a stiff dough by adding hot water and keep it aside for an hour.
  •  Pinch the dough and make lemon sized balls from the dough.
  • Spread the dough with fingers and shape them like pooris by applying some oil to your fingers. You can also add sesame seeds while spreading the dough.
  • Heat enough oil in a frying pan and fry all the prepared pooris.
  • Enjoy this with your favourite chutney. It is traditionally enjoyed with some peanut chutney and yogurt.

Notes

  • To prepare Urad flour, take ¼ cup urad dal dry roast until you get a nice aroma and powder it in a blender.
