Onion Parathas

Ingredients
  

For the Stuffing

  • 3 large onions finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 3 tsp green chillies finely chopped
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 coriander leaves
  • salt as per taste

To make the dough

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp oil
  • water to knead the dough
  • 3 tbsp oil/ghee for roasting the parathas

Instructions
 

Preparing the stuffing

  • In a pan, heat oil and add green chillies, ginger garlic paste and onion. Saute for 2-3 minutes
  • Add all the masalas ( cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt)
  • Saute until the onions are translucent and switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander and the stuffing is ready.
  • Let the stuffing cool down completely.

Preparing dough

  • To prepare the dough, mix flour, salt, oil and some water.
  • Knead a soft and smooth dough by adding more water if required.
  • Cover and aside the dough for 10-15 minutes.

Preparing Onion Parathas

  • Make medium sized balls from the dough.
  • Roll a medium sized dough into 2-3 inch diameter disc with a rolling pin by dusting some wheat flour.
  • Place the Onion stuffing in the center and bring together all the edges of the dough and seal it in the center and press downwards.
  • Sprinkle some more flour and roll it into a 6-7 inch diameter paratha.
  • Roast it on a pan ( tawa) by adding some oil/ ghee on both the sides until the paratha is evenly browned.
  • The parathas are ready! Serve it with some yoghurt and pickle or a vegetable curry.

Notes

  • Make sure that the onions are finely chopped. Otherwise, the parathas may tear while rolling.
  • Dough should not be tight. It will be difficult to roll the parathas.
  • While preparing the stuffing, make sure all the water evaporates because onion sweats after adding salt to it.
